Head of Freight Business Development
Head of Freight Business Development is focused on increasing freight traffic on SH 130, by developing business relationships with commercial freight operators and managing sales and marketing efforts of the company. This position is responsible for maintaining existing business relationships and generating new business opportunities. The position serves as a key company contact to the freight operators and reports to the Chief Executive Officer and works closely with the Senior Leadership Team to successfully drive revenue initiatives.
Job Description:
Head of Freight Business Development responsibilities include but are not limited to:
· Lead and coordinate both inside and outside sales activity targeting retailers, local distributors, logistics companies, and national freight companies utilizing trucks through the Central Texas corridor
· Proactively pursue new freight customers by coordinating customer meetings, seminars, webinars, lunches, and conferences detailing the economic benefit of using the SH 130 corridor
· Understand and promote the company’s customer-focused model detailing cost/benefit analysis of using SH 130 to secure new customers
· Target and meet with distributors located in Laredo, Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, and Dallas to drive an increase in SH 130 freight traffic
· Engage and communicate with current accounts to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction
· Regularly make outbound calls and coordinate meetings to list potential identified customers
· Coordinate and manage existing freight rebate program and develop new incentive programs
· Identify, connect and build relationships with fleet’s route optimization decision makers
· Identify, connect, and build relationships with entities such as BestPass, PrePass, and Drivewyze.
· Utilize CRM or equivalent to document sales and business development activity while tracking key success metrics
· Work with Communications Manager on plans and strategies targeting potential freight customers
· Attend freight and transportation industry trade shows to engage potential customers and promote the economic benefits of SH 130
· Initiate and complete customer surveys
· Propose new ideas and strategies to increase freight volume
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):
Education & Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or equivalent
· At least five years’ experience in the freight or transportation industry preferably with at least three years’ sales experience
· Relationships with Executives and Managers of national freight carriers operating in Central and South Texas
· Understanding of Texas highway infrastructure

· High energy, self-starter able to operate in a fast-paced environment and show strong initiative
· Ability to understand and effectively communicate the company’s value proposition, often representing the company at industry events and within organizations (including on boards and committees)
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills with strong attention to detail
· Customer focused yet technically proficient
· 30-50% travel required, primarily within the Texas Triangle
· Ability to productively interact with colleagues in cross functional structure
· Must be able to multitask, problem solve and prioritize projects based on potential value impact
· Display honesty, highest integrity and good judgement
Computer Skills:
· Experience with HubSpot, Salesforce or similar CRM to manage and grow trucking contact database
· Must be able to demonstrate computer proficiency especially within Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point, as well as PC based programs
